Fully Accessible Library with a reduced Collection. Staff similar to the Existing Facility. 15% Increase in Usable Space (approx. 800sqft), Limited increase in Staff, Lowest Cost.
Option A envisions a fully accessible library with a reduced collection. Staff similar to the existing facility. As an accessible venue with community room and small maker space, the library will be able to host a wide variety of programs including speakers, films, book clubs, and meetings.
Concept A: ‘Boutique Library’
Landscape Features:
- Improved accessible entry sequence
- Permeable street edge w/ flexible seating & space for
variety of events
- Versatile and multi-purpose programmable rear lawn that
could function in multiple ways
- Largest landscape interventions & opportunities
Building Features:
- Unified collection on main level with increased browsability
- Childrens’ space relocated to the second level
- Least expensive to build & maintain
- New entry gallery entry sequence with flexible seating
- New meeting to accommodate 75 – 100 people.
Challenges:
- Reduced library collections with limited stack space
- Community room is in the existing lower level, with less than ideal proportions
- Smallest community room size of all concepts
